Meet Janessa

 

Hey friend, I'm Janessa!

I grew up in a small town in Idaho, where some of my favorite memories include looking up at the stars at night, taking long drives on country roads, and enjoying my backyard view of the Grand Tetons. Idaho’s mountains are where some of my favorite family time has been spent, whether snowmobiling through fresh snow or riding 4-wheelers on dusty trails.

I’ve been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for my whole life, and I credit the joy and confidence I feel in life to knowing that I am a daughter of God. I’ve always loved studying the scriptures and especially discovering the details that bring the stories to life. While serving a mission in former Yugoslavia, where I learned to speak Croatian and Serbian, I grew an even deeper appreciation for the power of language and context. These tools helped me to study the scriptures with more intention, and to recognize how applicable the scriptures can be in my life.

My passion for studying the scriptures and the context surrounding each story, led me to start my Instagram account, @christianity.in.context. A place to share my personal scripture study insights and thoughts. For me, scripture study is about so much more than reading—it’s about piecing together details, understanding cultures, recognizing emotions, and seeing the people of the scriptures as real individuals with lives and struggles, just like us. Learning about the Savior in context has made my relationship with Him incredibly personal, and I hope to share a piece of that with you.
